……………………………

Mathematics study skills

1.Lesson attendance regularly and taking complete notes to enable mastery of maths concepts

2. Active participation by reading ahead, doing all given assignments for practice, asking questions in clas  and, doing consultation on areas you have difficulty ,

3.Preparing and using personal study timetable,

4.Focus discussion groups-joining discussion group to go over challenging maths topics & qxns

5. Revising all done maths test papers/looking for answers for questions failed.

6.Mantain a file of past test papers done. The answers to failed questions need to be written in red pen and revised regularly in order to master the concepts.

7. Seeking help/assistance when in difficulties  understanding certain topics to know how to  use mathematical tools (math tables/scientific calculator/geometrical instrument set

…………………………….

Problem solving skills in mathematics

Steps in solving a mathematical problem:

1.Read the whole question to understand the problem/follow instructions in the question

2.Identify the relevant technique/method/formula  to solve the problem

3.Solve the problem using the identified technique/method/formula

4.Revise your solution to the problem to correct simple mistakes in the solution

……………………………

Getting help in the learning of mathematics

-Get help from teachers, textbooks, fellow colleagues and from focus discussion groups.

– Seeking help/assistance 1.to know how to  use mathematical tools (maths tables, geometrical instrument set, scientific calculator) 2.to know how to answer  particular math problems e.g graphical work 3.using particular formula to solve math problems  4.seeking clarification on specific mathematical concepts

………………………

Studying for & taking a mathematics test.(Revision strategies and Guidelines on taking the mathematics test)

A)Preparation for mathematics test;(1) Always do given assignment for practice (2) Familiarize yourself on how to use mathematical tools(reading tables, construction instruments, scientific calculator, maths texts)  (3) Revising past papers (4) Maths consultations

B) Taking mathematics test-(i) Start with easier questions (ii) Read the instructions carefully and follow them faithfully, (iii) Show all your working including rough work below the question,
